After the Storm

It's hard to describe the feeling of seeing
so many downed trees. Especially big ones.
It's frightening to recognize that something
so large can be so vunerable. It's humbling
in a something-can-unexpectedly-knock-you
flat-on-your-ass sort of way. After our neighbor
used the word "heartsick" to describe how she
was feeling, I asked Erik why it was so sad. We
talked about the studies that show that if you
can see trees out your window it lowers your
blood preesure. We talked about how humans
have relied on trees for safety for thousands of
years and that sort of evolutionary programming
doesn't just go away. As Erik said, "Us monkeys
like trees"
